DESCRIPTION

  • More zzzz’s

According to research, swaddling a baby assists better quality sleep in the first few months. Helping keep baby on their back increases peace of mind and reduces the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Your baby is also able to get their hands to their mouth so they can self soothe.

  • Safety First

The Joey Pod lets baby sleep in their natural ‘arms up’ position and protects against hip dysplasia. Once baby can roll from back to tummy, our transitional Joey Pod helps little sleepers progress to free arm movement like a baby sleeping bag.

  • Comfy Counts

Our Joey Pod is different. While there’s slight pressure around baby’s body, it’s designed to be comforting and not straight-jacket like. Rest assured that the Joey Pod allows enough movement – they can even frog and kick with our bell shaped swaddle design. The Joey Pod Transitional Swaddle Bag works in tandem with our Joey Pouch® Swaddle Wrap. Think of it as a stopgap swaddle which can be used in 3 different ways: as a swaddle with both baby’s arms in; to transition from swaddling with one arm in one arm out; or like a baby sleeping bag with both arms out. No uncomfortable open press studs for baby once used as a baby sleeping bag.

  • Easy Peasy

In the Joey Pod, baby can self-soothe and settle by sucking on thumbs, finger or hands. Night time feeding without needing to unwrap baby, bottom opening zip for quick nappy change and safer handling of wrapped bub.

FAQ

Why Swaddle My Baby?

Swaddling a newborn child is helps for a number of reasons. First and foremost it prevents the Startle or Moro Reflex by making your baby feel like it is comfortably wrapped or cocooned similar to inside their mother’s womb. Bubbaroo’s Joey Pod Transitional Swaddle enables baby to self-soothe and settle safely, without scratching their face, by sucking on thumbs, fingers or hands through the soft lightweight 100% knitted cotton waffle fabric. The Joey Pod helps your baby sleep on their back which increases peace of mind and reduced the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Bubbaroo design with ease in mind – night time feeding without needing to unwrap baby, bottom opening zip for quick nappy change and safer handling of wrapped baby. Rest assured that the Joey Pod Swaddle is unique in that it allows for movement of your baby's arms and legs – they can even frog and kick with our bell shaped design. Not a straight jacket in sight! No pinning down your baby's arms or forcing their arms into a certain position.

How long does a baby need swaddling?

Bubbaroo recommends that once your baby shows signs that they're about to roll from their back to their tummy then it's time to transition out of swaddling. You can read more about transitioning out of swaddling in our article here. Our Joey Pod Transitional Swaddle can be used to transition baby out of the swaddle and can be used in 3 ways. If you're wanting to go "cold turkey" on the swaddling or your baby is already rolling then it is time to introduce the Joey Swag® baby sleeping bag. On average, a baby can roll between 4-6 months, however all babies develop at different stages, so it is important to watch your baby's growth and adapt accordingly.

Do your products comply with current safety standards?

Bubbaroo prides itself on its strict adherence to Australian and European safety standards and are personally quality controlled by Bubbaroo as well as independent third party testing and quality control agencies. We have a saying at Bubbaroo that a product is only as good as what it’s made from and that’s why we insist on premium quality of materials and craftsmanship. We use 100% knitted cotton waffle for our Joey Pod Transitional Swaddle, YKK zips and YKK press studs.

What if my baby cries while being swaddled?

Starting to swaddle your baby shortly after birth will eliminate baby's confusion of being tightly wrapped. Crying during or shortly after being swaddled is not an indication that your baby doesn’t like to be swaddled. Adjusting to space is a big thing for a newborn baby so swaddling baby is something to persevere with as the soothing benefits of swaddling helps baby relax, feel secure and stay calm.

How many swaddles do I need?

We recommend that you start with two Joey Pod Transitional Swaddles. Baby’s can be messy - with poonamis or spitting up and therefore having two Joey Pod® swaddles allows you to have one on your baby and the other in the wash.

Can I use blankets with a swaddle?

Yes! A light-weight 100% cotton blanket is safe to use in your nursery in the cooler months and great to use when you’re out and about too. It is recommended by SIDS to use as little as possible in your baby's cot for safety reasons and to tuck the blanket into the bottom of the cot. It's important to remember that a light-weight swaddle is recommended as a baby is cocooned in a swaddle. Once asleep be sure to check your baby's temperature by placing a hand on your baby's chest to ensure they're comfortably warm and not too hot.

Can my baby use the Joey Pod® from birth?

Yes, right from birth is a great time to start using the Joey Pouch Swaddle Wrap. It is a lightweight 0.5TOG which is suitable for all year-round use. It's available in one size and fits bubs up to 70cm long and Bubbaroo recommends a minimum weight of 4 kg/8.8lbs and a maximum weight of 8kg/17.6lbs.

How should my baby’s legs be positioned in the Joey Pod Transitional Swaddle?

Your baby's natural sleep position is the perfect sleep posture. The Joey Pod is bell shaped to make certain that baby can frog kick and are comfortable at all times.

What should I dress my baby in whilst in the Joey Pod Transitional Swaddle?

The Joey Transitional Swaddle comes with a handy guide of What to Wear when being used as a swaddle and when being used with arms out like a baby sleeping bag, based on the temperature of your baby's room.  Once asleep check that your baby is comfortably warm and not too hot by placing a hand on their chest. Feeling your baby's hands or feet is not a good guide as to whether your baby is too hot or too cold as baby's are unable to regulate their temperature.  Refer to our blog Is my baby too hot or cold for sleep?

When should I transition my baby out of the Joey Pod Transitional Swaddle?

There will come a time when your baby needs to transition out of the swaddle.  Typically, when your little one is showing signs that they're about to roll from their back to their tummy, we've written a blog to help guide you on when to transition out of the swaddle Transitioning your baby out of swaddling

SAFETY & INSTRUCTIONS

Red Nose (formerly SIDS and Kids) guide: Best practises for Safe Swaddling

  • Ensure baby is positioned on their back with feet at the bottom of the cot.  Never place a swaddled baby on their tummy.
  • Ensure baby is wrapped from below the neck to avoid covering the face.
  • Sleep baby with face uncovered without doonas, pillows, cot bumpers and lamb’s wool or soft toys in the sleeping environment.
  • Use only lightweight wraps such as cotton or muslin (bunny rugs and blankets aren’t safe alternatives as they may cause overheating).
  • The wrap shouldn’t be too tight and must allow for hip and chest wall movement.
  • Make sure that baby isn’t over dressed under the wrap. Use only a nappy and singlet in warmer weather and add a lightweight onesie in cooler  weather.  Refer to our guide of What to Wear with the Joey Pouch Swaddling Bag.
  • Provide a safe sleeping environment – safe cot, safe firm mattress, safe bedding and smoke free environment.
  • Babies must not be wrapped if sharing a sleep surface (including bed-sharing) with an adult.
  • When baby is able to roll from their back to their tummy and then onto their back again during supervised play (usually 4-6 months), the use of a wrap or swaddling product can be discontinued for settling and sleep. The child is now able to be placed to sleep in a safe sleeping bag.

SIDS and Kids. National Scientific Advisory Group (NSAG). 2005. Information Statement: Wrapping babies. Melbourne, National SIDS Council of Australia. This information statement was first posted in October, 2005.

Babies over the age of 4 months can usually rollover in the cot. Red Nose (formerly SIDS and Kids) recommend that once your baby can roll, they can be placed in a safe baby sleeping bag (i.e. fitted neck and arm holes, and no hood such as a Bubbaroo Joey Swag baby sleeping bag). Keep baby’s head uncovered when indoors or in a car. Ensure baby has no head coverings, such as bonnets, beanies, hats or hooded clothing.  Put them on their back but let them find their own sleeping position. The risk of sudden infant death in babies over six months is extremely low.

Amazing product

My granddaughter is 16 months old and her Bubbaroo sleep suits are still used every time she goes to bed - and in fact becoming increasingly handy if that’s possible! My granddaughter is safe in her cot when she wakes up and the sleep suit is now a message that it’s bedtime. I have given Bubbaroo products as gifts for years and they are extremely well received, with gratitude continuing to be offered long after the gifts have been given.

Neck too small

My 4 month old girl seems to have too big a neck or the swaddle needs a bigger neck. Seems to dig in!
