TOG ratings & your What to Wear Guide

At Bubbaroo we understand that knowing how to dress your baby for sleep can be challenging. Many new parents are unsure how to keep their newborn baby warm during sleep. Make sure your baby is dressed comfortably for the temperature of the room. Your baby’s tummy should feel warm. It's normal for their hands and feet to feel cooler. If your baby’s skin is red, or sweaty, this is a sign they are too hot.

A baby controls their temperature mostly through their head and face. To prevent them from overheating, don’t cover your baby’s head.

The right sleepwear can help keep your baby comfortable and safe. We recommend close-fitting, soft, cotton baby clothes that can be layered easily depending on the temperature. As a guide, dress your baby in the same number of layers you are wearing, plus one extra layer for warmth.

What is a TOG?

Bubbaroo’s range of products are TOG-rated for warmth.

TOG stands for 'Thermal Overall Grade' and is a unit of measurement for insulation and warmth of sleepwear and bedding.

Synthetics fabrics can have a fixed thermal value, but natural products have more variation in TOG. Bubbaroo has 3 types of TOG-rated products.

0.5 TOG suits hot summer weather and heatwaves with room temperatures around 24-27 degrees. The O.5 TOG Joey Pouch and Joey Pod are a single layer of knitted cotton waffle whereas our 0.5TOG Joey Swag sleeping bag is a single layer of
beautiful, organic 500 thread count cotton sateen.

1.5 TOG Joey Swag is best suited to summer nights and daytime naps with the average room temperature  of around 20-23 degrees. The 1.5 TOG consists of 500 thread count organic cotton sateen and is padded with Australian Wool carrying the Woolmark logo.

2.5 TOG Joey Swag is suitable for standard temperatures of between 10-20 degreesand can be used year-round. The 2.5 TOG is also made of organic 500 thread count cotton sateen and is padded with Australian Wool carrying the Woolmark logo.
